When a Lawn Is Past Saving
Every lawn has a tipping point. Up to a certain point, overseeding, feeding and patching can bring it back. Past it, you're spending money every season on a lawn that's mostly weeds, bare soil and turf the grubs have already eaten.
The trouble with overseeding a failing lawn is that it doesn't change the conditions that made it fail. Compacted soil, a low spot that floods, roots chewed off by grubs, or weeds that out-compete young grass will win again. That's why so many "fixed" lawns look the same a year later.
Lawn replacement resets everything. We cut out the old turf and haul it away, check the soil and grade underneath, correct what needs correcting and lay fresh sod. You go from a problem lawn to a finished one in days, not seasons.

What's included
What Our Lawn Replacement Includes
Sod Cutting and Removal
We cut the old turf out cleanly with proper equipment, roots and all, instead of burying it under new sod where it would rot and settle.
Haul-Away and Disposal
The old sod, weeds and debris leave with us. Disposal is included in the $3.00–$3.75 per sq ft price.
Grade Check
With the turf off, we can see the real shape of the yard and check that the ground falls away from the house. Filling low spots and correcting the slope is quoted as an add-on of about $1.00 per sq ft.
Soil Refresh
We loosen compacted soil and add screened topsoil where it's thin, so the new roots have somewhere to go. Preliminary soil prep and levelling are included; added topsoil is quoted on site.
New Sod, Laid and Rolled
Fresh-cut Kentucky Bluegrass from locally grown, premium Ontario sod farms, laid tight and staggered and rolled for full soil contact.
Watering Plan
You get a simple watering schedule for the weeks while the new roots knit in, starting with a soaking on install day.

How We Replace a Lawn
Instant Quote
Enter your lawn size in the calculator and choose "sod replacement" for a range that includes removal and disposal.
Inspect
At the site visit we look at what's killing the lawn: grubs, compaction, drainage, shade or grade. That way the new sod doesn't meet the same fate.
Strip and Haul Away
The old turf is cut out and hauled away.
Prepare the Ground
Soil loosened and topped up where needed, with low spots and slope corrected if you've chosen the grading add-on.
Lay, Roll and Water
Fresh sod goes down, gets rolled and gets its first watering, along with your schedule for the weeks ahead.

Common Reasons We Re-Sod
Grub Damage
White grubs feed on grass roots under the surface. You see the damage when turf lifts like a loose carpet, or when skunks and raccoons dig it up overnight looking for a meal.
Weed Takeover
Once weeds cover most of a lawn, there isn't enough healthy grass left to win them back. Starting over is often cheaper than years of treatment.
Dog Spots and Heavy Traffic
Urine burn, worn paths along fences and compacted play areas eventually stop recovering on their own.
Thin Turf in Tough Spots
Some areas just struggle. We'll be straight with you: if a spot is in heavy shade, Kentucky Bluegrass may not be the right answer there, and we'll talk through other options.
Getting a Home Ready to List
A fresh lawn photographs well and tells buyers the property has been looked after.
Failing Builder Sod
Sod laid fast over poor prep on a new build often thins out within a few seasons. Replacing it with proper soil work underneath fixes it for good.
Signs Your Lawn Needs Replacing, Not Repair
- The turf lifts up like a carpet when you tug it
- More than half the lawn is weeds or bare soil
- The same bare patches come back every year
- The ground feels spongy, lumpy or uneven underfoot
- Water sits in the same spots after every rain
- You've overseeded more than once without lasting results

Why Choose Right On Sod for Lawn Replacement
We Remove It, We Don't Bury It
Laying new sod over old turf traps rotting material underneath and leaves a lumpy, settling lawn. We cut the old lawn out completely.
We Find Out Why It Failed
Grubs, drainage, compaction or grade: we deal with the cause, so you're not replacing the lawn again in three years.
Fresh-Cut Kentucky Bluegrass
From locally grown, premium Ontario sod farms, laid within 24–48 hours of cutting.
Disposal Included, Prices Published
Removal and haul-away are built into our per-square-foot price. No surprise dump fees at the end.

Lawn Replacement FAQ
Do you haul away the old sod?
Yes. Removal and disposal of the old turf, weeds and debris are included in our $3.00–$3.75 per sq ft replacement price.
Can you replace just part of a lawn?
Yes. Front yard only, one side of the house, or the worn strip along a fence. We cut cleanly to a straight edge so the new section blends in. Our $1,500 minimum applies, so small areas are often combined with other work.
Will new sod fix a grub problem?
New sod replaces the damage, but it won't stop grubs from coming back if conditions favour them. Healthy, well-watered turf with good soil underneath tolerates grubs far better than a stressed lawn. We'll point out signs of active grubs at the site visit and talk through prevention.
How fast can you re-sod before I list my house?
Most jobs are scheduled within one to two weeks of the site visit, and once we're on site most residential replacements are finished in one to two days. Tell us your listing date when you book, and keep in mind new sod needs about two to three weeks before it takes light foot traffic, and about a month before heavy use.
Do you treat the soil before laying new sod?
We loosen compacted soil, check the grade and add screened topsoil where it's thin. That soil work is what makes a replacement last.
