Lawns in Burlington: What We See
Burlington runs from the Lake Ontario shoreline up to the Niagara Escarpment, and its lawns change with the age of each neighbourhood. Older areas carry decades-old turf, big trees and soil packed down by years of use. Newer streets usually started with builder-grade sod over a layer of topsoil too thin to give it a fair start.
Then there's water. On August 4, 2014, roughly two months' worth of rain fell on the city in a matter of hours, and more than 3,000 Burlington households reported flooded basements. Most yards will never see a storm like that, but it showed how fast water finds a low spot or a lawn that slopes the wrong way. Many of the lawn problems we're called about here are drainage problems underneath: spongy patches that never dry out, water sitting against the foundation, grass dying in the same strip every spring.

Aldershot
Burlington's west end, around the Aldershot GO station, with southern streets reaching the lake. Expect established lots, mature trees and old turf competing with roots for water and light.
Brant Hills & Headon Forest
Brant Hills is a mature neighbourhood, and Headon Forest was built out from the 1980s. Lawns here have often been patched and overseeded for years until weeds outnumber grass.
Millcroft, The Orchard & Alton Village
North Burlington's newer family neighbourhoods, from the Millcroft golf course northward. Builder-grade sod over compacted fill and thin topsoil is the usual starting point.
Rural North Burlington
Kilbride, Lowville and the escarpment slopes around Mount Nemo, off Guelph Line. Larger properties, longer carries and steep ground where rain runs off fast, so we walk them before pricing.

Good Questions
Burlington Sod FAQ
Do you cover all of Burlington, north and south?
We work across urban Burlington, from Aldershot and Tyandaga in the west to Millcroft, The Orchard and Alton Village in the north and the lakeside neighbourhoods in the south. Rural north Burlington, including Kilbride and Lowville, falls inside our service radius as well. Put your address in the quote form and we'll confirm.
Is there a travel charge for Burlington jobs?
Burlington is inside our regular service area, and your on-site quote lists everything the job includes, and all prices are subject to 13% HST.
Will a French drain stop basement flooding in a storm like August 2014?
Only part of it. A French drain handles surface water: it moves rain away from the foundation before it soaks in. It won't stop sewer backup, which is a separate cause of basement flooding. For that side, Halton Region runs a basement flooding prevention subsidy program that covers work such as downspout disconnection, so check the current details with the Region. If water pools against your walls from the yard, we'll assess the grade and drainage and quote the fix.
